曾執導過多部《X戰警》（X-Men）的導演布萊恩辛格（Bryan Singer）最新執導作品《X戰警：天啟》（X-Men: Apocalypse）將在明年上映，而導演也在他 50 歲生日這天，向觀眾宣布他的下一部電影計畫將是再次把法國作家儒勒凡爾納（Jules Verne）的經典科幻小說《海底兩萬里》（20,000 Leagues Under the Sea）搬上大銀幕。

這部電影計畫過去也曾流落到許多不同的導演手上，像是大衛芬奇（David Fincher）在拍攝《控制》（Gone Girl）之前，原本也籌備了許久，但最終還是選擇放棄。不過在布萊恩辛格確認了這個訊息後，也表示《海底兩萬里》的電影拍攝計畫並沒有就此打住，相信對於期待這部電影的觀眾來說，絕對是一個好消息。

《海底兩萬哩》的原著故事描述 Aronnax 與他忠誠的僕人 Conseil，以及一名加拿大捕鯨手 Ned Land，一同踏上了一個極其危險的海上之旅，還將試圖征服險為人知又駭人的海怪。而這個「怪物」卻突然變成了巨大的潛水艇，由神秘的 Nemo 船長所指揮，很快的他們也屈服於 Nemo 船長的掌控。
